A video of a woman allegedly slapping her husband and claiming that he was fully supportive of her money in full public view went viral on social media platforms. This sparked outrage, with people said that the Indian judicial system should allow men to claim alimony in such cases.
The woman is heard yelling that the man does not make money and uses her money for support. Things escalated when she grabbed his collar, yelled at him, and slapped him several times while a group of bystanders looked on and did not intervene.

The man, clearly uncomfortable and powerless, made the feeble gesture of holding her hand to deflect the blows. His silence and inaction made the incident more disturbing to witness. Fights between couples has always existed, but fighting out in public is new territory and society does not yet know what to do with it. This incident has now sparked conversations on respect, gender roles, and the difference between frustration and abuse.
The video, which has now taken over social media timelines, was originally posted on X (formerly Twitter) by the handle ‘gharkekalesh.’ The short clip was shared with a chilling caption: “A disturbing video shows a wife publicly slapping her husband just because he isn’t earning.” The video got over 130K views by the end of the day it was posted, which led to a huge barrage of reaction.
Internet users quickly posted their thoughts online – some were astonished at the woman’s aggressive actions recognized in the video and some, were critical of a deeper issue, related to double standards in relationships.
One user expressed disbelief, writing, “What even?! Who gave her the right to publicly shame him?” Another echoed the sentiment with a quote from comedian Chris Rock: “Only women, children & dogs are loved unconditionally.” A third user wrote, “I think the Indian legal system allows husbands to claim alimony in such cases. He should seriously consider it.” “This seems deeper. I doubt he’s actually unemployed. These public fights, or ‘kalesh,’ are getting way too common,” wrote one.
