A Bengal professor ‘married’ to a first-year student inside a classroom of her government-aided college that shook the professor's colleagues and others after a video of the ‘wedding’ went viral on social media. Later, the professor clarified that it was a mock wedding for a ‘freshers’ welcome event’. Now, the school administration has sent her on leave and ordered an inquiry in the case. The ‘wedding’ took place on January 16 in Nadia's Haringhata.

The viral video shows the teacher wearing a bridal saree, while the student is dressed in a green sweatshirt. Later, the student applied vermillion to her forehead. Other teachers and students were also present in the classroom at the time.
Interim vice chancellor Tapas Chakarbarty said that a probe panel of five members has been constituted.
The teacher said that she has sought a legal action against her colleague , saying that she knows the person who did it.
