A Bengal professor ‘married’ to a first-year student inside a classroom of her government-aided college that shook the professor’s colleagues and others after a video of the ‘wedding’ went viral on social media. Later, the professor clarified that it was a mock wedding for a ‘freshers’ welcome event’. Now, the school administration has sent her on leave and ordered an inquiry in the case. The ‘wedding’ took place on January 16 in Nadia’s Haringhata.
Payal Banerjee, a former head of applied psychology at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, defended herself, saying that she will file a case against her ‘jealous colleague’ who allegedly released the video clip on the internet without taking her consent.

The viral video shows the teacher wearing a bridal saree, while the student is dressed in a green sweatshirt. Later, the student applied vermillion to her forehead. Other teachers and students were also present in the classroom at the time.
Interim vice chancellor Tapas Chakarbarty said that a probe panel of five members has been constituted.
The teacher said that she has sought a legal action against her colleague , saying that she knows the person who did it.
