Nupur Agarwal from Kolkata and Ashwin Malwade from Maharashtra met on a beach in Mumbai during a cleanup drive. When the couple decided to marry, they approached several wedding planners but were unable to find anyone who understood what they were looking for. Nupur and Ashwin eventually decided to plan their eco-friendly wedding.
Nupur explained that they served mocktails and fresh juices for drinks and decorated their venue with local flowers that were later composted and generated no dry waste.
The couple had inspirational hashtags embroidered on their wedding gowns, and the groom’s wedding procession arrived in electric vehicles. Because the leftover food from the wedding was distributed, there was no food waste after the wedding.
The couple even requested that their guests travel by train rather than flying and planted one tree for each guest. They also abandoned the idea of using plastic in their wedding and instead devised inventive solutions such as wrapping gifts in newspapers and serving sweets in steel cans with their wedding date engraved on them.
Following their eco-friendly wedding, the couple decided to carry on the idea of sustainable weddings by launching their own event-planning company, Greenmyna. They offer consultations on how to plan a green and sustainable wedding.
