The incident happened on February 1 on Flight 2221, which was supposed to fly from Oakland, California, to Portland, Oregon.
Just before the flight was about to take off, an elderly man with gray hair and glasses suddenly pulled the long black hair of the woman sitting in front of him. He held on tightly and refused to let go, ignoring all requests to stop.
Other passengers and crew members tried to intervene, but the man did not listen. The woman struggled to free herself, but he kept pulling her hair, causing panic inside the plane.
That was the time when the flight attendant had to come in between and was forced to punch the elderly man until he finally let go.

Alaska Airlines confirmed the incident, saying that the passenger seemed to be having a violent medical episode. They stated that he physically attacked both passengers and crew members during the flight.
The airline also announced that the man has been permanently banned from flying with Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.
The woman who was attacked later shared her experience. Speaking to the Daily Mail, she explained that the man was having a mental breakdown. She said he repeatedly banged his head on her seat, briefly lost consciousness, and then suddenly grabbed her hair near the scalp.
“If I had leaned forward, he could have ripped my hair out. I was scared he might punch me in the head,” she said. She also expressed her gratitude to the flight attendant and other passengers who stepped in to help her.
