Why Did the Rush Happen at Thane Station?
The viral video was recorded on November 6, during the evening rush hour, when Thane station turned into a sea of people.
The chaos began after Central Railway employees staged a protest at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The protest started when two railway engineers were booked in connection with the June 9 Mumbra train accident.
As a result, train services were halted for almost an hour, leaving thousands of office-goers stranded across stations.
When trains finally resumed, panic broke out. Commuters started running even before trains stopped, jumping onto the tracks, and pushing through massive crowds to get inside.
The platforms were so overcrowded that it looked like a stampede could happen any moment.
Thankfully, despite the chaos, no major injuries were reported.
