Why Did the Rush Happen at Thane Station?
The viral video was recorded on November 6, during the evening rush hour, when Thane station turned into a sea of people.
The chaos began after Central Railway employees staged a protest at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The protest started when two railway engineers were booked in connection with the June 9 Mumbra train accident.
As a result, train services were halted for almost an hour, leaving thousands of office-goers stranded across stations.
When trains finally resumed, panic broke out. Commuters started running even before trains stopped, jumping onto the tracks, and pushing through massive crowds to get inside.
The platforms were so overcrowded that it looked like a stampede could happen any moment.
Thankfully, despite the chaos, no major injuries were reported.
Internet Reacts: “We Are Treated Like Animals”
As the video spread across Reddit, X, and Instagram, social media users expressed anger over the dangerous situation.
One user wrote,“Maut aajaye but Thane se local na pakadna pade” (I’d rather die than have to catch a train from Thane).
Another commented, “If there’s so much crowd every day, why can’t the government add more trains or longer coaches? People are suffering daily.”
Some called it “hell on earth” while others compared commuters to cattle, saying, “We are treated like animals pushed, crushed, and ignored.”
A few users also expressed relief about not living in big cities: “I’m just thankful to live in a small town. No job is worth this chaos.”
