Adrian Simancas was kayaking with his father, Dell, in Bahia El Aguila, near the Strait of Magellan. Suddenly, a huge whale came up from under him and swallowed both Adrian and his bright yellow kayak for a few seconds, according to The Associated Press.
Dell, who was nearby, told his son to stay calm and was able to record the moment on video.
“Stay calm, stay calm,” he reassured Adrian as the whale let him go without hurting him just seconds later.

Adrian told The Associated Press that he thought he was “dead.” He said, “I thought it had eaten me, that it had swallowed me. When I came up and started floating, I was scared that something might happen to my father too, that we wouldn’t reach the shore in time, or that I would get hypothermia.”
After being in the water for a little while, Adrian swam to his father’s kayak, and his father helped him get on. Although Adrian was scared by what happened, both of them safely made it back to shore.
