New Delhi: Giving birth on a flight is uncommon these days but there is a rule that women are not allowed to fly after a certain point in their pregnancies. But as it says that uncertain things happen, recently a Thai woman delivered a baby mid-air at about 35,000ft above sea level on an Emirates flight flying from Japan to Dubai.
A woman unexpectedly gave birth while travelling on aircraft EK319 on Thursday from Tokyo’s Narita International airport to Dubai. The 12-hour journey to Dubai was uneventful. Upon landing, the mother and infant received the necessary medical care.

According to the sources “Emirates confirms a birth on board flight EK319 from Tokyo Narita to Dubai on 19 January. The passenger was assisted by the crew and the flight continued to Dubai as per schedule. The passenger and baby were in stable condition and, upon arrival in Dubai, were met by local medical staff. The health and safety of our crew and passengers is of paramount importance.”
Airline crew trained
As passengers are not allowed to fly in any emergency medical condition but still the crew is trained for such situations. This quick and calm action by the crew of the Emirates shows how committed they are towards their passenger’s well-being and safety. The cabin crew is given the training to handle such emergencies which include child birth, heart attack and many more.
