New Delhi: A woman named Krystina Pacheco from the United States lost both her hands and feet after having her second child with a C-section. During an interview with the media Krystina said that an infection from her C-section led to her lose of limbs. The incident took place in October last year.

Speaking to the media, she said, after delivering her baby girl Amelia via C-section, she was discharged from the Texas hospital, but when she returned home two days later, she began to feel feverish, short of breath, and vomiting.

The mother of two initially assumed that her symptoms were simply part of her C-section recovery and she was given ibuprofen by a nurse. Later with increased sickness, she went to see a doctor, who referred her to a local emergency room. She was airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio, where she was diagnosed with septic shock.

The term denotes an extremely dangerous condition in which the body has an extreme response to infection.

Ms. Pacheco told media, “I just remember I couldn’t breathe anymore and I couldn’t see anymore and I just started slowly fading out. My husband, I could just hear him saying, ‘Please come back to us, please, your babies need you. I need you. I need you to be here and help me with our babies,’ and that’s the last thing I remember.”

The 29-year-old was in intensive care for two weeks, breathing through a tube. Doctors later told her that poor blood flow to her limbs had caused so much damage that they had to be amputated.

Ms. Pacheco told the media that her medical team had done everything possible to keep her from reaching this point, “My hands and feet were black. They looked like a person who had gotten frostbite.”

Ms. Pacheco was finally permitted to return home earlier this month, nearly four months after giving birth. She is now responsible for both her daughter and her two-year-old son. She is currently doing home workouts to rebuild her strength and will soon begin outpatient rehabilitation so she can get stronger and be self-sufficient in tasks such as transferring from her bed to a chair and using the shower.

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
