Sometimes the addiction is to eating something healthy and sometimes it is something that can harm the body in the long run. However, it is very rare to become addicted to eating sand and cement. A 39-year-old British woman became addicted to eating cement and sand, which also shocked her husband.
A woman named Patrice Benjamin Ramgoolam is addicted to sand, bricks, and cement and calls it a ‘comfort blanket.’ He developed the habit of fine sand, cement, and brick details at the age of 18. Many people like to eat sweet foods, while others prefer hot and spicy foods. But Patrice likes the unusual taste of sand, brick and mortar. According to reports, he constantly stares at the walls of the house and breaks the plaster to eat the materials inside the walls.

Patrice’s husband Benjamin Ramgoolam was also shocked to hear about his wife’s addiction. Patric and her husband began dating as schoolmates and later married. At the beginning of their married life, Patrice hid this addiction from her husband.
When he found out about his wife’s addiction, he asked Patrice to kick his habit. But Patrice couldn’t kick the habit. According to him, eating pieces of brick, cement, and plaster helps him to be happy. The addiction is so strong that he cannot kick his habit, even knowing that it is slowly damaging his health.
According to the doctor, this type of addiction is called Pica. People suffering from this disease prefer to eat non-food. Different people who suffer from Pica become addicted to eating different things that are not edible. Patrice’s doctor advised him to give up the habit of eating cement or bricks and also recommended medication for the patient. However, he is still addicted even after he kicks the habit.
Patrice is aware of his habit of eating such things. A habit he formed at age 18 led him to a point of no recovery.
