On July 31, following events took place:

1880:  Famous Hindi storyteller and novelist Premchand was born

Dhanpat Rai Srivastava better known by his pen name Premchand was an Indian writer famous for his modern Hindustani literature. Premchand was a pioneer of Hindi and Urdu social fiction.

1980: The great playback singer of Hindi films, Mohammed Rafi passed away.

Mohammed Rafi was an Indian playback singer and musician. He is considered to have been one of the greatest and most influential singers of the Indian subcontinent. Rafi was notable for his versatility and range of voice; his songs varied from fast peppy numbers to patriotic songs, sad numbers to highly romantic songs, qawwalis to ghazals and bhajans to classical songs.

1916: Former CM of Rajasthan Mohan Lal Sukhadia was born

Mohan Lal Sukhadia was an Indian politician, who served as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan state for 17 years (1954–1971). He became chief minister at the age of 38 and was responsible for bringing major reforms and developments in Rajasthan. For this, he is still widely revered as the “founder of modern Rajasthan”.

1940: Death anniversary of Freedom Fighter Udham Singh

Udham Singh was an Indian revolutionary belonging to Ghadar Party and HSRA, best known for assassinating Michael O’Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of the Punjab in India, on 13 March 1940. The assassination was done in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919, for which O’Dwyer was responsible.

1992: Birthday of Indian actress Kiara Advani

Kiara Advani is an Indian actress who works in Hindi and Telugu language films. After making her acting debut in the comedy film Fugly (2014), she played MS Dhoni’s wife in the sports biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016). She gained praise for playing a sexually unsatisfied wife in the Netflix anthology film Lust Stories (2018), and played the leading lady in the political thriller Bharat Ane Nenu (2018).
