‘Tera Baap Kaun Hai?’, CEO Deepinder Goyal Tells How His Father Reacted Before He Started Zomato

Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Zomato, recently recalled a memory from almost two decades ago and recalled his father’s reaction when he initially pitched the idea of ​​starting a food delivery company.

Mr. Goyal said he started Zomato 16 years ago in 2008. He said, ‘My father said to me at that time, ‘Janta hai tera baap kaun hai?” He explained that his father’s point was: ‘You can’t pitch, I’m from a small village in Punjab, that’s the background.’

The CEO then discussed how the perception of startups has changed over the past few years and shared his thoughts on how the board helped make the change.

Mr. Goyal narrated this story while attending a Vishesh Sampark function hosted by Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. The event brought together many innovators, startup leaders, IT professionals, etc. from across the country to discuss the country’s ‘digital transformation and future opportunities’ under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
