An HR manager from Punjab was fired after arguing with her boss about a new Raksha Bandhan leave policy. The boss had introduced a rule that anyone taking leave for the festival on August 19 would lose seven days’ salary instead of just one. The HR manager opposed this policy, which led to her dismissal. She shared on LinkedIn that although she was given a two-week notice, her office access was cut off immediately. The company denied her claims, stating that she had previously received multiple warnings.
In her LinkedIn post, she wrote: “I tried to stand up for what was legally right, but ended up getting fired. Although he said he would give me two weeks, he cut off all my access so I had to leave right away. Here’s my chat with my boss, Kunal Kakkar, who fired me because I opposed the rule of deducting seven days’ salary for just one day off.”
In the screenshots shared, the boss said: “To maintain team unity, I’ve decided that on August 19th, Raksha Bandhan, no half-days or short leaves will be allowed. Everyone must attend work. If anyone misses work on August 19th, they will face a seven-day salary deduction. Attendance is mandatory, and if anyone disagrees, they can resign.”
Company Alleges Manipulation By HR Manager
The HR manager argued that taking seven days’ salary for just one day’s absence was not fair or legal. Her boss defended the policy, saying employees who disagreed could resign. He was determined to undermine team unity.
After her post went viral, the company accused her of trying to gain sympathy online by playing the victim.
While many people enjoy gossip, some just want attention, and others simply share the message in their WhatsApp group to show support. It’s easy to judge a situation based on only one side of the story.
B9 Solutions added, “Did Babina mention that she had received several warnings before her termination? These were about her excessive phone use, taking online courses during work hours, failing to manage the company’s social media accounts, not filling vacant positions, and doing her daughter’s homework while at work. She tried to create a conspiracy and form a union by asking all staff to take paid leave from August 15th, a national holiday, until the 20th. However, the office supported the initial leave on August 15th and weekend breaks, and everyone agreed to work a half-day with flexible shifts on August 19th for Raksha Bandhan.”
The company claimed that Babina was trying to manipulate management by insisting it was the employees’ demand.
Social Media Backs Babina, Slams Company For Unfair Practices
Even though the company defended its actions, it faced criticism on social media, with most people supporting Babina. One user commented, “This is tyranny!”
Another user said, “Is corporate life bringing back slavery? Imagine spending 45% to 50% of your day at work and then not being able to celebrate special festivals with your loved ones. That sounds like slavery. We should always fight against such unfair practices. I support you, Babina. Thank you for standing up for your colleagues. You stayed true to your role in HUMAN RESOURCES, focusing on people. I’m sure you’ll find a better company.”
