In a bizarre incident, a woman was left anxious and vulnerable after a 36-year-old, identified as Damian Wojnilowicz reportedly broke into her home in Monmouthshire, UK on July 16. According to media reports, the burglar made himself comfortable at her home and completed some of the household chores.
While the woman was away from home due to work, the man decided to cook himself a meal and pour himself a glass of wine. He also hung up her washed laundry and tidied up the place. In a surreal twist, he even left a note for the victim that read – “Don’t worry, be happy, eat up and scratch.”

Legal Implications
Following the bizarre theft, Wojnilowicz was sentenced to 22 months in jail from Cardiff Crown Court. The incident left the victim feeling unsafe at her home.
The woman was quoted saying, “I wondered if it was someone who knew me. If it was going to turn into a stalking incident if he knew I lived alone and if I had been targeted.”
I lived in a state of heightened anxiety I had never known before,” she alleged.
Prosecution Details Chilling Offense
As per Mirror reports, Alice Sykes, the prosecutor, made a rare disclosure in the court highlighting the consumption of food and alcohol during Damian Wojnilowicz’s break-in.
Sykes said that the victim spoke to her neighbor, who mentioned seeing someone hanging washing on the line. It was heard that the burglar cleaned floors had a recycling bin emptied, put groceries away, and re-arranged household furnishings before he fled.
Another Strange Break-In By Wojnilowicz
Two weeks later, Wojnilowicz struck again in Newport in a similar burglary, Sykes added. This time, he broke into a summer house owned by the victims, where he washed his clothes, waited for them to dry, and helped himself to food he found in the household. However, the victims had installed security cameras. They were stuck in traffic as they witnessed the burglary, and immediately contacted a family member who confronted Wojnilowicz and called the police. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
Wojnilowicz Pleaded Guilty Of Burglary
Wojnilowicz pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary. Recorder Christian Jowett told him, “This was a significant intrusion in their homes. You pose a significant risk to the public.”
