When two snatchers set their sights on a jogger at the entrance of Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri on Saturday evening, they were completely unaware of the imminent danger they were about to confront. Their initial attempt to steal the man’s chain proved futile. Resorting to drastic measures, they brandished a pistol, assaulted the jogger, and menacingly threatened to use it.

Under the threat of the gun, they forcibly snapped the chain hanging from his neck and departed from the scene.

On an ordinary day, it might have been dismissed as just another attempted snatching. However, this particular incident unfolded in a completely unexpected manner. The intended victim happened to be none other than Vinod Badola, a highly decorated encounter specialist from the Delhi Police’s special cell, who also possessed expertise in Krav Maga.

In a swift turn of events, the tables were turned in a matter of seconds. Despite being unarmed and clad in his tracksuit, Badola made the bold decision to confront the armed snatchers single-handedly.

A tense and electrifying drama unfolded as Badola pursued the snatchers on foot, engaging them in a fierce physical altercation. Despite the odds stacked against him, the officer fearlessly grappled with one of the assailants, eventually overpowering and disarming him. However, the other culprit seized the opportunity to flee the scene while Badola maintained control over his accomplice.

Without hesitation, Badola swiftly contacted the PCR by dialing 112 to alert them of the situation. Undeterred by the escape of one perpetrator, he remained determined and coordinated with the local police to track down the second snatcher. Despite the criminal’s attempt to blend in with the crowd of pedestrians and seek refuge near a fountain, he was successfully located and apprehended.

DCP (New Delhi) Devesh Mahla confirmed that the two snatchers were identified as Gaurav from Sarojini Nagar and Pawan Dev from a slum cluster on Tughlaq Road. Both individuals have been charged under severe sections of robbery with an intent to cause harm.

Vinod Badola, aged 48, has been instrumental in numerous high-profile operations and encounters throughout his career. Notably, in October 2013, Badola and his team successfully tracked down gangster Nitu Dabodia, who had instilled fear among the city’s businessmen. In a fierce encounter near a five-star hotel in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, they neutralized Dabodia.

Subsequently, Badola continued to be actively involved in various anti-terror operations, one of which earned him the prestigious Union Home Minister’s Special Operations Medal, highlighting his exceptional bravery and dedication to maintaining law and order.
