Bengaluru: A video posted by an Instagram influencer and yoga instructor, Tanny Bhattacharjee, has sparked an online storm of arguments after she was publicly shamed by an elderly woman for wearing shorts in Bengaluru. Titled “Woman against Woman,” the video questions society and the kind of control it tries to inflict on the clothes women wear. Bhattacharjee, with over 1.2 lakh followers on Instagram, looked baffled at her situation. “What do you think is the problem? I don’t know what’s happening.”

Reactions to the video have been mixed, with many condemning the elderly woman for her behavior, while others came to her support, agreeing with her views about modesty. An Instagram user felt that the woman was being hypocritical: “Shorts have nothing to do with society. Its your mentality. By the way why is the aunty wearing a saree with a crop top showing her stomach?” Another said: “Bengaluru is going backwards,” in criticism of the city for what the user saw as its regressive attitudes.

Bhattacharjee Responds to Incident
Bhattacharjee, however, countered, “Some commented that whatever happened was in front of her, she should have looked the other way and forgotten it.” She replied, “We walked away, yet she followed us continuously.” The woman further shamed her in public by stopping vehicles and showing her in shorts to other men, underlining she was not shooting content and was only going towards the car park.
