34-year-old Ann Elizabeth Fowler Hodges from Alabama never wished to be famous, but in 1954, she became the focus of national attention after something unexpected happened. Ann was hit by a falling meteorite while taking her afternoon nap. Yes, you heard that right! She became the first and only human ever to be struck and injured by a nine-pound rock from space, which crashed through her house’s ceiling.
Only Documented Case In History
The Alabama woman is so far the only documented case of a human struck by a meteorite who survived. Ann, who lived in Oak Grove town near Alabama’s Sylacauga city, was left with a massive bruise on her hip. She found herself embroiled in a legal battle after her landlord claimed to be the rightful owner of the space rock.
Where Is ‘Hogdes Meteorite’ Now?
The law favoured the landlord, but after a year of courtroom clashes, Ann and her husband agreed to pay for their rights to the space rock, reports added. By the time the interest of the people in the meteorite had faded away, they donated it to the Alabama Museum of Natural History in the US. “Hodges Meteorite” remains one of the rarest objects ever discovered.
