India’s legendary cricketer and the eternal ‘captain cool’, MS Dhoni, celebrated his 43rd birthday on July 07, 2024. Renowned as the only captain to have clinched all three ICC white-ball trophies, Dhoni enjoyed a lively celebration captured in a video shared by his wife on social media.
The humorous clip sparked conversations online, particularly when Sakshi Dhoni playfully touched Dhoni’s feet and folded her hands in a unique gesture. Dhoni’s query about the cake being eggless added to the light-hearted moment, showing consideration for his vegetarian friends.

Dhoni is a legendary figure in the world of cricket, renowned for his calm demeanor and exceptional captaincy skills both in international cricket and the IPL. On August 15, 2020, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, marking the end of an illustrious career.
Under Dhoni’s leadership, India secured victories in all formats. Under his captaincy, India led the Test rankings for 18 months starting December 2009. The team won the 50-over World Cup in 2011 and the T20 World Cup in his captaincy debut in 2007.
Dhoni’s journey is one of the most inspiring in sports history. From working as a ticket collector at a railway station, he transformed into India’s biggest trophy collector, leading the team to the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, and ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. He made his international debut in 2004, initially known for his powerful hitting, and later becoming a finisher who guided his team to victories with calculated aggression and strategic brilliance.
Known as Chennai Super Kings’ ‘Thala’ (leader), Dhoni played 98 T20Is for India, scoring 1,617 runs at an average of 37.60 and a strike rate of 126.13, with two half-centuries and a top score of 56.
In Test cricket, Dhoni played 90 matches, scoring 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09, with six centuries and 33 half-centuries, and a top score of 224. He ranks as India’s 14th-highest scorer in Tests.
As captain, Dhoni led India in 60 Test matches, with 27 wins, 18 losses, and 15 draws, achieving a win percentage of 45.00. He is one of India’s most successful skippers, leading the team to the number one ranking in ICC Test Rankings. He is also the only Indian captain to whitewash Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, achieving this in the 2010-11 and 2012-13 series.
Affectionately known as ‘Mahi,’ Dhoni led India in 72 T20Is, with 41 wins, 28 losses, one tie, and two no-results, achieving a win percentage of 56.94.
Besides his international success, Dhoni guided Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to franchise glory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Champions League T20. He led CSK to five IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023, and two CLT20 titles in 2010 and 2014.
Dhoni played 264 IPL matches, mostly for CSK, with a stint at Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016-2017. He scored 5,243 runs at an average of 39.13, with 24 half-centuries, 152 catches, and 42 stumpings.
With these remarkable statistics as a middle-order batsman and his success as a captain, it is unlikely that India and the world of cricket will witness a phenomenon like ‘Captain Cool’ again.
