Mount Elbrus is 18,510 feet high

Hardoi: Abhinit Maurya, a mountaineer from Hardoi has made India proud by hoisting tricolour on Mount Elbrus on, August 22, the highest mountain peak in Europe. Excited by his achievement, his village is celebrating with the family. Hardoi’s Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad congratulated Maurya by tweeting on X (formerly Twitter).

Russia’s Mount Elbrus is 18,510 feet long and is the highest peak in Europe. The time taken by Abhineet for mountaineering was 10 days, proudly hoisted the Tiranga (Indian flag) on 22 August at 6:08 a.m.

Climbing journey

“Apart from us, there were eight climbers from other countries including Japan, Iran, and Thailand who came out together. During the climb many times there were adverse situations on the way but he did not lose courage and continued to move forward.” NBT online quoted him as saying.

Maurya added that he built a base camp in Taraskol about 1400 Km ahead of Moscow, and from there he left to climb Mountain Elbrus on August 14 with his guide Salahuddin.

Encountering a snowstorm on August 21

Abhineet in his interview said that on August 21 around 10 p.m., he was surrounded by a sudden snowstorm. It was a game of life and death for about 20 minutes. After the storm calmed, the temperature had reached minus 25 degrees and icy winds were travelling at a speed of 50 KM per hour.

Hoisted tricolour on August 22 at 6 am

At dawn, Abhineet recalls that he had reached the top of Mount Elbrus on August 22 at 6:08 a.m. and was completely exhausted. Filled with pride Maurya recalls saluting the Tiranga as he hoisted the 77 feet Indian flag on the auspicious occasion of the country’s 77th independence day.

Along with this, Maurya spread his messages on environmental protection and sang the national anthem of India. Mountaineer also performed Surya Namaskar to make people aware of the power of yoga.

State’s deputy CM Keshav Prasad expressed his warm congratulations to Abhineet Maurya by tweeting.
