Former Mokama MLA Anant Singh Gets Big Relief, Acquitted By Patna HC In AK-47 Case

Bihar: Patna High Court gave big relief to former Mokama MLA Anant Kumar Singh on Wednesday. The Court acquitted Anant Kumar Singh in the AK-47 case. He was earlier given parole in May and was out for 15 days.

The verdict comes after evidence falls short against Former Mokama MLA in the AK-47 case. During an 11-hour search operation on August 16, 2019, at the MLA’s residence in his native village Ladma, Barh Police Station recovered an AK-47, two hand grenades, 26 rounds of bullets and a magazine from the MLA. Anant Singh, RJD MLA from Mokama was earlier sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by a special court in Patna in relation to the AK-47 case.

Charges against Former MLA

Former Mokama MLA was found guilty under the Arms Act, Explosive Substance Act and IPC. He was elected from the constituency for a fourth consecutive term but was disqualified followed by his conviction. A total of 34 defence witnesses stood out in support of the guilty. Besides documentary evidence, about 13 witnesses were examined by the prosecution.

Charges against the two accused Anant and his lawyer Sunil in the FIR were framed on October 15, 2020. As per Anant’s election affidavit, he faced charges of committing several crimes. Anant Singh surrendered before the Saket Court in New Delhi. Both the accused were fined Rs.50,000 under the Explosive Substances Act and Rs.10,000 under the Arms Act, respectively.
