The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) has selected the Pan Pacific Orchard, a 23-story hotel in Singapore, as the ‘Best Tall Building Worldwide 2024.’ This was made public during CTBUH’s annual conference held this year in London and Paris. The award emphasizes a creative approach to living in an urban setting with sustainability and the community in the hectic Orchard district of Singapore on a hotel.
WOHA’s Unique Design
Pan Pacific Orchard is the creation of WOHA, one of the most famous architectural firms in the world. It is the second time that WOHA has won this award. The company had won earlier in 2018 for the Oasia Downtown Hotel. Both are hotels, but the design is quite different. The Oasia Downtown stands out with its bold red facade and clinging plants. Pan Pacific Orchard looks more open with its stacked design and a series of several terraces.
As it is four floors off the ground, the building supports three fully furnished floors of huge sky terraces, with each one six stories tall and offering fabulous city views, while the hotel rooms ring each of the terraces to create an outstanding experience for guests. Special features for each terrace include a Water Plaza for the Forest Terrace and an event spaces scheme for the Cloud Terrace, with the intent to hold functions under the face of a solar canopy. These factors not only beautify the appearance of the hotel but also care for the local wildlife and plants.
Focus On Sustainability
CTBUH CEO Javier Quintana de Uña mentioned how Pan Pacific Orchard creates a new standard for sustainable urban design. He said that the hotel is more or less based on infill. This simply means reviving existing communities rather than creating new ones. This aim at improving spaces in the city makes the hotel a fantastic example of responsible building practices.
Pan Pacific Orchard had earned the Green Mark Platinum rating for its excellent sustainability work. Other efforts include rainwater irrigation, food waste processing, and solar panels powering shared spaces. These not only align with Singapore’s initiatives in sustainability but are also an international approach in reducing environmental impacts related to tall buildings.
Transforming City LivingPan Pacific Orchard
This hotel is a true leader in environmental design for its category. It stands out from the shopping malls and mixed-use buildings it encircles within Orchard Road. The ‘hotel in nature’ concept of Pan Pacific Orchard redefines the high-rise typology through terraced gardens and water features, which allows the building to command a remarkable green plot ratio of over 300 percent. Its kind of design honors Singapore’s practice of respect for nature while setting a new example for sustainable city development.

The hotel design also strives to conserve energy through natural airflow and a low level of mechanical cooling. One of the founders of WOHA, Mun Summ Wong, was full of pride as he indicated that the project confirmed its stand on developing structures that would blend with nature and the urban surroundings.
CTBUH Awards And Recognition
Nominated by CTBUH Best Tall Building Worldwide, Courtenay, Pringle, besides the best building around the world award on height, Pan Pacific Orchard was also awarded in the category of Space Within for buildings of outstanding interior spaces and user experiences as credited to the CTBUH. On judging, it considered how well the building facilitated movement between the spaces and how it implanted technology and systems for better performance.
Pan Pacific Orchard has become the latest winner, joining the list of former winners like Quay Quarter Tower in Sydney and One Vanderbilt Avenue in New York City. These buildings stand proud with innovative designs that lead the way for future construction in urban areas.
