New Delhi: Have you ever dreamed of Paris and wondered why this city is also known as the City of Love? Some sources said that the atmosphere was romantic. But what makes it a romantic place?
The Pont des Arts that is also known as the Locks of Love affectionately is a pedestrian bridge located in Paris that spans the iconic River Seine. This bridge is one of the reason of having “love in the air” in Paris.
The bridge connects the Institut de France with the central square of the Louvre Palace. It goes without saying that the bridge is an important lifeline.
Only when part of the bridge fence collapsed, the city realized the weight of love. You see, the Pont des Arts is called the Love Lock Bridge for a reason.
Lock Tradition
There is a long tradition that lovers will visit the bridge and put locks on the fence. People see it as a sweet gesture to lock in their love for each other. But as we mean, all good things come to an end, so has this. In 2015, the weight of thousands of metal locks damaged the iconic bridge. So they went down a bridge with all those locks, still…locked.
In case you were wondering what happened to the keys, the Seine owns them all. A compromised and critical bridge is never good news. A collapsed part can also lead to further weakening of the structure. Aware of the danger, the city government decided to end this tradition.
Thus began the tedious process of unlocking the padlock. To the disappointment of many lovers, since the unfortunate collapse, glass panels have now replaced the fence.
