Odisha: A 70-year-old woman can be seen walking with the help of a chair for several kilometres to collect her pension from the bank. According to the State Bank of India’s manager, she is having problems withdrawing money because of her broken fingers.
In the video, the lady can be seen going barefoot in the sweltering heat, supported only by a broken chair. On April 17, an incident occurred in the Jharigaon block of the Nabrangpur district of Odisha.
Surya Harijan, an elderly woman, is impoverished. Her older son is a migrant worker in another state. She is staying with the family of her younger son, who makes a living by grazing other people’s cattle. The family lives in a hut because they do not have any land to cultivate.

SBI manager said, “Her fingers are broken, so she is facing trouble withdrawing money. She has been given ₹ 3,000 manually from the bank. We will resolve the problem soon.”
The lady went to the bank to claim her pension, but she was told that her thumb did not match the records, forcing her to return home. In response to the incident, a State Bank of India (SBI) management stated that she is having difficulty withdrawing money due to “broken fingers” and that the bank is working to remedy the issue.
The Sarpanch of her community also stated that they had discussed naming such needy persons in the area and providing them with pension money.
