New Delhi: The new Mahindra Thar RWD variants are slated to launch in India on January 9, 2023. Ahead of the launch, the automaker has updated the SUV’s brochure on its official website, revealing engine details, features and new color options. The new Thar RWD version gets a new 1.5L turbo diesel engine that is good enough for 118bhp and 300Nm. It’s the same engine that powers the XUV300 subcompact SUV.

The rear-wheel drive system will also be offered with the existing 2.0-litre petrol engine with a maximum output of 152 PS and 300 Nm (MT)/320 Nm (AT) of torque. The new 1.5L diesel engine will come with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the petrol 2.0L turbo petrol unit can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The automaker will also introduce the lower AX (O) trim with RWD settings and 1.5L diesel and 2.0L gasoline engine options.
New Mahindra Thar RWD Features
In terms of features, the new Mahindra Thar RWD AX (O) offers monochrome MID display, vinyl upholstery, manual mirrors, tubular steel side step and 17-inch alloy wheels. However, it lacks cruise control, a tire pressure monitoring system, steering wheel controls, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and built-in speakers.
The 1.5L AX (O) variant is equipped with Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control and an Electronic Stabilization Program with rollover mitigation. The Thar RWD variants will be available in new colors Blazing Bronze and Everest White. The 4X4 SUV version is available in four color schemes namely Galaxy Grey, Aquamarine, Red Rage and Napoli Black.

Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUV
In other updates, the domestic SUV maker will launch the Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV in the coming weeks. It will be Mahindra’s first all-electric SUV with a 39.5kWh battery. The carmaker claims that the model offers the longest range in its segment – i.e. 456 km on a single charge. It is also the fastest accelerating electric SUV in the country (0-100 km/h in 8.3 seconds).
