Violent protests have entered their third day in Nepal. As of Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the death toll has risen to 30, while hundreds are injured. An increasingly fierce protest, led by Gen Z, erupted on Monday, August 8, with demands to lift the ban on social media platforms and government corruption. Following the massive youth-driven agitation, the demonstrators vandalised and set fire to outgoing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s private residence in Balkot, Bhaktapur. Shortly after, he resigned from his post and fled the country.

A user wrote, “This is how corrupt officials of Nepal hurriedly fled the country by hanging from an emergency helicopter.” Another user said, “They are escaping by hanging onto the helicopter rope.” A third user commented, “These leaders belong to no one. When something happens in the country, these people leave the people to die and run away to another country.” Meanwhile, a fourth user said, “Guess corruption really does make you rise—but only by clinging to helicopters instead of integrity.”
