Mahendra Singh Dhoni, popularly known as MS Dhoni, MSD, or Mahi is one of the greatest cricketers India ever had. Under his captaincy, team India bagged the ODI World Cup in 2011 after 28 years. From being an amazing wicketkeeper to hitting the historic sixer, Captain Cool has garnered immense love from fans as the best finisher of the match.
Do you know MSD has a brother? A real brother? 10-year elder brother? Very few of us know about him because Mahi never mentioned him. He is never seen with him. He was even absent from the legend’s biopic. MS Dhoni: The Untold Story kept his brother ‘untold’.
The family tree
MS Dhoni was born to Pan Singh Dhoni and Devaki Devi as their youngest child. Narendra Singh Dhoni was the firstborn and is ten years older than the cricketer. Jayanti, their sister is three-four years older than Mahi. Now, recall the scene from the biopic where Pan Singh feels elated for seeing a son born to him and Devaki.
Brothers poles apart
Unlike MSD whose net worth is approx 1,000 crore rupees, Narendra Singh Dhoni lives a normal life. He is a politician and was said to be associated with the Samajwadi Party in 2013 after switching from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Though it’s not confirmed if he is still active in politics. Narendra also resides at his residence in Ranchi but at times he spends time at his native place in Uttarakhand too.
Elder Dhoni got married in 2007 and has two kids – a son and a daughter.
Why was he NOT in the biopic?
If you see the biopic of MS Dhoni, you would never get to know that there were not two but three siblings. The character of Narendra Singh Dhoni has not even been mentioned in the movie. While some say this change was due to the distance between the two brothers and they are not in talking terms due to a family dispute, Mahi has no answer to it.
The elder brother’s version
On the other hand, Narendra said that there was an age gap of 10 years between the brothers and by the time Mahi started liking cricket, he (the elder one) moved to Almora for higher studies so he had no contribution to Dhoni’s journey of cricket. He also added that the biopic was about MSD’s cricket journey and not about the family.

Dhoni was recently seen in Anant Radhika’s grand wedding and his social media post wishing the newlywed has gone viral as Mahi has written such a long post after quite a while. Fans also questioned his absence from the consecration ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
