In the past few months, several instances have surfaced on social media in which Thar owners or drivers were seen at fault. They often project themselves as rulers of the street and, after untoward incidents, end up in the media for the wrong reasons.

A fresh incident has once again reinforced this perception about Thar owners. In Nagaland’s Dimapur, a 65-year-old driver drove his Mahindra Thar onto railway tracks in an attempt to manoeuvre it. He was trying to display off-road bravado but got stuck on the tracks.

Several users criticised the irresponsible behaviour of the driver and said Thar owners should show greater responsibility and morality before taking their vehicles out on Indian roads.
A user wrote on X, “You can buy a 4×4, but you can’t buy the common sense to realize that rubber tires and iron rails don’t mix.”
Another user posted on X, “ I don’t know what is this obsession of Thar owners to drive the car on footpath, recklessly and this time it’s on a rail track.”
An X user termed it a “ worrisome” situation, saying, “Shocking, yes—but also deeply worrying. This isn’t just a bizarre mistake; it’s a stark reminder that road sense and fitness to drive are public safety issues, not just personal ones.”
“Thar must be sold to only those who submits Psych Evaluation Certificate from doctor,” a user said on X platform.
