Karnataka: A woman recounted a troubling experience she had with transportation company Uber after she booked a ride in Mysuru. She posted about the incident on LinkedIn alleging that the driver harassed her grandparents after she refused to pay him an additional Rs 2500.
“I never imagined I’d be sharing this, but safety concerns are paramount, and this situation needs urgent attention,” Nidhi Tara wrote.
Incident Details
Nidhi said that the cab driver agreed with an additional toll payment of Rs 450, over and above the total ride amount of Rs 2,407.96 but turned aggressive when they reached the destination. She further stated that he demanded another Rs 2,500, and left only after the people began to notice.
Driver Harasses Her Grandparents
The matter further worsened when the cab driver went back to her grandparents’ place to harass them. “This should have ended there – but last night, things escalated. This same driver showed up at my pickup location in Mysuru at 10:30 PM and harassed my elderly grandparents, demanding money and claiming he was cheated. His behavior not only left us deeply shaken but posed a serious threat to our safety,” she added.
Uber’s Response
Uber reacted to the incident with an apology and an assurance that an investigation into the matter would be launched. Uber wrote, “Hi Nidhi, we apologize about this situation, and we understand how upsetting it must have been for you and your family. We can confirm a specialized team is investigating the incident, and we will get in touch via the app as soon as they have updates.”
“Heartfelt Thank You And…,” Nidhi Pens
In light of the overwhelming support she received in her recent post, Nidhi said, “Your reactions, comments, and shares have brought attention to an issue that is far larger than my personal experience – it’s about the safety and well-being of everyone who relies on ride-hailing services.”
She also appreciated Uber’s Grievance Team for their prompt action, stating, “Rachel from Uber’s Grievance Team did reach out to me and my grandparents, and reassured us that the issue was being handled. She informed us that the driver involved in this incident was barred from the platform.”
