The latest in the exorbitant rental costs of Mumbai is a one-bedroom apartment (1BHK) in Matunga East. A viral video posted on Instagram showed a tiny apartment with a small living room, a bedroom, a kitchen, and a small staircase that leads to a loft. Notably, the monthly rent for the apartment – Rs 45,000, has left many online users shocked.
The property video shared on Instagram by a user named ‘Hritik Salve’ carries the caption: “Old vibe 1BHK on rent only 45K.” The caption further stated that the apartment is located in Matunga East. Much traction was generated shortly after the video was posted, and people began putting it up on X (formerly Twitter), questioning the ₹45,000 rent for such a small space and calling the house ‘old vibes.’ Many users have noticed how it resembles the traditional chawl.
A user named ‘thehadesofdead’ wrote on X, “Purani chawl ko old school/old vibes bolkr 45k rent pr de rhe capitalism has commodified poverty to a next level.”
In the comments section of the Instagram post, followers made sarcastic remarks about rent. A few said that the rent for 1BHK area is relatively less in Mumbai. Another commented, “3 lakh rent hona chahiye (Rent should be Rs 3 lakh).”
A user remarked, “Those who feel it’s high. It’ll cost you at least 80 lakhs to 1 Cr in the Prime areas.”
“Such unorganised people..! House is beautiful but full messed!,” another said.
