This Multilingual Take On Malayalam Song Nee Himamazhayayi Is Unmissable

People are demonstrating that music transcends language barriers. Many artists are bringing this idea to life by translating popular songs into different languages. Recently, Debosmita Deb shared a video where she sang the Malayalam song ‘Nee Himamazhayayi’ in three languages. With over 20,000 Instagram followers, Deb smoothly transitioned from Malayalam to Bangla, and then to Hindi.

Her melodious mashup has received over 46,000 likes since it was posted on June 3. TViral Videohe unique musical experiment earned widespread praise, including from Nee Himamazhayayi’s composer, Kailas Menon, who commented, ‘Wow. This is so beautiful. You sang really well. And the song sounds so nice in Bangla & Hindi.’

‘Nee Himamazhayayi’ is a song from the 2019 action-drama film ‘Edakkad Battalion 06,’ which had a moderate performance and received lukewarm reviews. The film featured an ensemble cast including Tovino Thomas, Samyuktha Menon, Joy Mathew, Rekha, Sudheesh, and Abu Salim. The song ‘Nee Himamazhayayi’ was composed by Kailas Menon and sung by Nithya Mammen and Hari Sankar K S.

One Instagram user encouraged her to make her songs available on music streaming platforms, saying, ‘Can you please start recording your songs, stream it somewhere and let us take a subscription? I live alone, I could use it to sleep better at night.’

Many praised the singer for her perfect diction and accent in all three languages, particularly Malayalam. An Instagram user commented, ‘Malayalam is a tough nut to crack, but you are doing good, would like to see more Malayalam songs from you.’ Another person wrote, ‘Beautiful. I am Bengali, my best friend is a Malayali from Tripura. I’m gonna make her listen to this. This is wonderful.’

One comment noted, ‘I have found some amazing similarity in the phonetics of Malayalam and Bengali, maybe that’s the reason why these two mother tongue speaking singers can easily sing Malayalam and vice versa. Amazing singer. Soulful singing.’

In May, another video went viral, featuring a mother and son showcasing their impressive musical talent. They performed the popular Tamil song ‘Vaseegara’ from the 2001 film ‘Minnale’ in multiple languages. Seamlessly transitioning between Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil, the duo maintained the song’s flow. Since being shared on May 19, the video has garnered over 540,000 likes.
