Indian food is readily available in London’s markets due to its large Indian population. However, Indian food in London commands significantly higher prices compared to India. For instance, ladyfinger costs 650 rupees per kilogram there, whereas in India, the same quantity costs only 50–60 rupees.
This applies not only to ladyfinger but to other vegetables and Indian dishes as well. Recently, the cost of Indian cuisine in London has been a topic of discussion after Chhavi Agarwal, an Indian resident there, posted a video about it on social media.
According to the details shared in Chhabi’s viral social media video, snacks originally priced at Rs 20 are selling for Rs 95 in London. Additionally, a packet of Maggi noodles costs Rs 300 in London supermarkets. Other items mentioned include paneer priced at Rs 700 per package, ladyfinger at Rs 650 per kilogram, bitter gourd at Rs 1000 per kilogram, and six Alphonso mangoes priced at Rs 2400.

This Chhavi video has been embraced and viewed by millions, accumulating 6.2 million views and gaining widespread sharing.. The video highlights items priced ten times higher than in India, such as Good Day biscuits costing Rs. 100 instead of Rs. 10, and small packs of Little Hearts cookies priced at Rs. 100. Additionally, while 400 grams of Bhujia costs between Rs. 100 and Rs. 110 locally, it is priced at Rs. 1000 in London.
Apart from this, there is a wide array of Indian culinary options available here. Many items have prices that are ten times higher, while others fetch significantly higher rates. However, in comparison to Dubai, 24 packs of 50-gram Parle G biscuits cost 8.25 Dirhams. In India, the cost for the same quantity amounts to approximately Rs. 186, making each biscuit about Rs. 7.75. This indicates that prices here are generally higher than those in Dubai.
