It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance: in a breathtaking under-the-sea experience, a very lucky diver swam in the crystal-clear waters side by side with a glorious blue whale just off the coast of the Maldives. The encounter, which was caught on tape by a videographer, is blowing up the internet.

The video sends viewers on a magical underwater experience in which the diver glides smoothly next to the enormous whale. He glides alongside the grand fin of the whale, pretty close, but then stops, turns, and looks back into the eyes of the camera.

Netizens’ Reaction On Maldives Video

“We believe we’ve just filmed Laikko’s first words after this experience—’The best moment of my life, gliding alongside the largest animal on Earth, the blue whale,'” read the caption on Instagram.

The encounter of humans with nature was mesmerizing, yet shocking, to those who have seen the video clip. “That’s truly the most beautiful moment I have ever watched. It’s completely taken my breath away,” one viewer commented.

“What if whales actually see the world upside-down, so that surfacing for air feels like touching the ground, while diving deep feels like flying into space?” another wondered.

A third remarked, “How do people muster the courage for this?! I’m terrified just watching it.”

A fourth added, “I needed a moment to realize that the blue whale was underwater and not in the sky.”

Largest Mammal On Earth

The largest mammal known to ever live on Earth is the blue whale. At a maximum length of 33 m (108 ft) and weight of up to 180 metric tons (200 short tons), the blue whale is so huge that an average-sized car weighs as much as its heart does, which can weigh as much as 400 pounds (180 kilograms). Despite the gigantic size of their body structure, they swim at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour (19 miles per hour).

Blue whales are though to live up to around 80-90 years of age. They are considered Endangered on the IUCN Red List due to factors like habitat loss, ship strikes, and overexploitation through hunting in the past.
