Maharashtra: A labourer was reportedly trampled to death by a wild elephant in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district while he was trying to take a selfie with the animal. The 23-year-old victim went to the Abapur forest along with two of his friends but tragically lost his life.
According to media reports, the victim and his friends were at Gadchiroli for cable laying work when they planned a break to see the wild elephant. News about the elephant’s presence in the Chittagong and Gadchiroli forest area surfaced on Tuesday.
Selfie Session Goes Wrong
While the trio was enjoying their time in the forest, the victim decided to take a selfie of himself with the elephant from a distance. The selfie session turned fatal as the elephant attacked him and he lost his life on the spot. His friends, however, managed to escape with their lives.
Locals Informed About The Presence Of Wild Elephants
TOI quoted Maharashtra PCCF (Wildlife) Vivek Khandekar, saying, “We’ve already informed nearby villages to take precautions and posted forest staff in each village. Our field staff, along with the Rapid Rescue Team (RRT), are already active in the area and informing the locals about the presence of wild elephants and dos and don’ts while dealing with them.”
Khandekar further stated that the Gadchiroli forest officials had already warned about the wild animal’s entry into Chambharda village on October 21 night.
