A Bengaluru autorickshaw driver is winning hearts by offering to educate passengers who do not speak Kannada in a simple yet creative way. Ajmal Sultan, famous as ‘Auto Kannadiga’ on social media, has put a poster inside his vehicle, providing simple Kannada language lessons. The leaflet which is titled “Learn Kannada With Auto Kannadiga,” offers translation of basic phrases from Kannada to English.
Sultan’s post has gone viral online, with over 20,000 likes and almost 500 comments. In the video, Ajmal talks about his poster that contains basic phrase translations such as ‘Namasakara sir’ (Hello, sir); Sir, yeshtu aaythu? (Sir, how much?); Sir, swalpa nidhanakke hogi (Sir, go slow); “UPI idya athva cash aa?” (Do you accept UPI or cash?). The leaflet also contains a QR code. If scanned, a demo video opens up explaining what to say when inside and outside the auto.

Sultan’s initiative probably seeks to bridge the linguistic gap many experience in the city.
