A couple in Kolkata is making news for their different way of teaching their children. Instead of sending them to a regular school, they choose unschooling.
Unschooling is not the same as homeschooling. It is a learning method where children learn based on their own interests, without formal lessons or a set curriculum.
Actress and influencer Shenaz Treasurywala met the couple and shared the experience in an Instagram video, which has become very popular. The video starts with Treasurywala introducing the family by saying, “This couple decided never to send their children to school.”
Talking to Treasurywala, the father said, “Schools are a big waste of time. We believe in learning through real-life experiences and travelling. We really believe in learning through travel, so we travel a lot.”
The couple explained that unschooling is a way of learning without structure, where children learn through everyday life, workshops, nature walks, art, books, and history while travelling. The father also shared that his son, who loves cricket, learns math through the game.
“Unschooling means there is no set plan or curriculum. You just let life teach you,” he said. He also mentioned that their children have many activities during the day and are always busy with something.
When asked about their kids’ future jobs, the father said, “We are teaching them to be entrepreneurs, so I’m not worried.” The couple also said that while traditional schools can make students feel tired, their children enjoy learning.

Meanwhile, the young boy told Shenaz Treasurywala that he would suggest unschooling to other kids too: “Because, I know they don’t like school.”
