Jharkhand: The physical test for the recruitment of constables in the Palamu area of Jharkhand brought pain and despair for many as 25 applicants fainted while attempting to the scrutiny. As per the police reports, of all the candidates who were rushed to the hospitals, three have lost their lives.
A dozen candidates fainted
As the candidates felt unwell, they were sent to the Medinirai Medical College and Hospital where two died. Another candidate was referred to RIMS in Ranchi where he collapsed. As per the doctor, the initial reports suggest that the candidates fell sick due to suffocation. Dr. RK Ranjan also added that they might have been given anesthetic medicines to improve their pain-bearing capacity which resulted in their demise. A probe is underway to inspect the exact reason behind this mishappening.
Change in the test schedule
As per the statement in the record, as many as 100 candidates have fainted till now in the physical test of the constable recruitment process which is underway for the Excise Department. The tests are to continue till September 9.
After this incident that has jolted the administration in Palamu and Jharkhand, senior officials have decided to take all the physical tests at 04:00 am instead of 09:00 am. This change in the schedule is expected to help candidates who had to appear for physical scrutiny amidst the scorching heat.

The reason behind the ailment of hundreds of candidates and the sad demise of three remains questionable as temperature can’t be considered as the lone factor in a geographical area like Palamu which receives a decent rainfall in monsoon and otherwise. The other factors are yet to be investigated and the probe is on.
