A 20-year-old woman from Bengaluru has gone viral after sharing her experience of being turned down for a flat due to her age.
The woman has been identified as Naina, who had been apartment hunting in the city, was excited when she found a flat. However, her hopes were vanished when the landlord rejected her, citing her young age as the reason. This ignited a war of words in social media.
How she countered the rejection:
To address the rejection, Naina took an unconventional approach and created a PowerPoint presentation to showcase why she would make the ideal flatmate.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she explained how she lived a responsible lifestyle, free from smoking or drinking, and valued privacy and minimal interference in others’ lives. “I am probably the best flatmate you could find,” she said, presenting her case in a bid to overcome her age being held against her.

Despite her efforts, Naina’s video quickly attracted ridicule. Some users mocked her for what they saw as an over-the-top attempt to prove her worth as a flatmate. One commenter wrote, “Are kids these days not going to college? Do they just jump into work in Bengaluru?” Others criticized her for appearing overly eager and desperate for a place.
The situation escalated when some users delved into Naina’s online activity. They noticed that she had been posting about her search for flats and roommates for several months, leading some to speculate that she might be involved in the property business. “Every day this girl is either looking for flats or roommates. Looks like she’s a property dealer,” one user wrote, sharing posts dating back to November 2023.

Naina denied these allegations, stating that she had finally found a flat and would no longer post about her search. However, the incident has sparked a wider conversation on social media about the challenges faced by young people, particularly in cities Metro cities like Bengaluru, when it comes to finding housing.
