A couple from Madhya Pradesh, Rishabh Rajput and Shonali Chouksey, recently tied the knot after being together for 11 years. Their joyful wedding, however, turned into an unexpected online controversy. When their photos and videos went viral on social media platforms like X and Instagram, the groom began facing harsh criticism for his dark skin tone.

Joyful Moments Overshadowed By Internet Trolls

The wedding, filled with traditional grandeur, saw the groom in a sherwani paired with a bright pink shawl and safa, while the bride wore a vibrant magenta lehenga. Pictures captured them exchanging garlands made of white and pink roses, smiling, and sharing the happiness of a long-awaited union.

While these images should have celebrated love, many online users instead focused on Rishabh’s skin colour, leaving hurtful and derogatory comments. A post by an X user, Divya (@Divyadubeyy), questioned the marriage, sparking millions of views and a flood of insensitive remarks.

Rishabh Speaks Up

Despite the backlash, Rishabh chose to respond with honesty and dignity. He shared the significance of the moment, explaining that he had waited 11 years to marry Shonali and could barely contain his emotions on seeing her as a bride.

Addressing critics, he wrote, “Sorry to disappoint you. I'm not a government employee but I work for my family and wish to give them a decent lifestyle. I do have a handsome income, though, but she loved me when I had nothing and she stood there having my back since my college days in my thin and thick, blues and greys... so your opinion doesn't really matter.”

Rishabh's Lifelong Challenges Due To His Skin Tone

Rishabh did not shy away from sharing the lifelong challenges he has faced due to his skin tone. “I cannot deny the fact that I'm black and I have dealt with the racism my entire life,” he admitted, expressing gratitude to those who supported him through the online trolling.

The couple’s story reflects the power of love and patience. While society often focuses on superficial traits, Rishabh and Shonali’s bond endured years of togetherness, mutual respect, and support. Rishabh’s response has inspired many, showing that dignity, self-confidence, and love can rise above online hate.
