Time-Traveling Flight: Passengers on a unique trans-Pacific flight experienced a rare phenomenon recently, as they took off in 2025 and landed in 2024. This was because the flight crossed nine time zones and the International Date Line. This “time-traveling flight” 880 of Cathay Pacific took off from Hong Kong just minutes after the city celebrated the start of 2025 on January 1, according to the report of FlightAware.
After a 14-hour flight, passengers landed in Los Angeles at 10 pm on December 31, 2024, effectively “traveling back in time” to the previous year. Moreover, the flight went back to 2024 when it crossed the International Date Line while flying over the Pacific Ocean.
On the other hand, some travelers lose a day and skip New Year’s altogether. Air New Zealand’s Flight 27 left San Francisco on Dec 31, but lands in Auckland on Jan 2, after a 12-hour flight.
Meanwhile, countries around the world, including India, kicked off 2025 in style, with massive celebrations marking the end of a year that witnessed several significant global events. These included thrilling Olympic victories, Narendra Modi’s historic third term as India’s Prime Minister, Donald Trump’s remarkable return to politics, and ongoing tensions in the Middle East and Ukraine.
Furthermore, 2024 will be known in memory as one of the hottest year on record, with devastating climate-related disasters impacting regions from flood-ravaged northern India to Nepal’s Himalayan areas.
