A nurse named Lucy Letby, currently 34 years old, killed seven newborns and attempted to kill seven others shortly after their births. She faced 15 charges, was convicted by the court, and sentenced to life in prison. She is now in HMP Bronzefield jail and has confessed to her crimes to the police.

Lucy Letby admitted to deliberately killing the newborns because she felt unable to care for them. However, leading academics, doctors, and statisticians are now questioning the evidence used to convict her. In April 2024, her supporters protested outside the London High Court, carrying banners that called for justice and claimed they would work to get her out of jail.

Experts Challenge Letby Conviction, Claim Police Mishandling Evidence

According to media reports, some internet sleuths believe 34-year-old Letby was a victim of police mishandling. Many think she was wrongly accused as part of a conspiracy. Professor Richard Gill from Leiden University, who believes in Letby’s innocence, has even presented evidence supporting her. The 72-year-old statistician, who studied at Cambridge University, told The Sun that he is confident she is innocent and promised, “We’ll get her out eventually.” NHS consultant neonatologist Dr. Svilina Dimitrova also criticized the court’s evidence, saying it was insufficient to prove Letby’s guilt or innocence.

Reviews Evidence For Possible Innocence

According to media reports, former cabinet minister and civil liberties advocate Sir David Davis says the evidence against Letby is under scrutiny. They are reviewing the case, and if they determine that she is likely innocent, they will request to visit her in prison. The former Brexit secretary told The Sun that, like most people, he initially believed she had killed seven children and deserved a life sentence.

The former Brexit secretary mentioned that many people reached out to him, questioning the evidence in Letby’s trial. Letby still maintains her innocence and told the jury in her second trial that she isn’t the type of person who would kill children. However, the trial judge described her actions as brutal and cruel, leading to her conviction for targeting newborns small enough to fit in a hand. She was sentenced to life in prison.
