In a viral blog post, Vinay Hiremath, an Indian-origin entrepreneur has shared a candid reflection of his life after selling his start-up for an impressive $975 Million in 2023. The co-founder of Loom, Hiremath expressed being in a ‘totally un-relatable position’ after selling his firm. He wrote about not having to work again and being clueless, stating, “Everything feels like a side quest, but not in an inspiring way. I don’t have the same base desires driving me to make money or gain status. I have infinite freedom, yet I don’t know what to do with it, and, honestly, I’m not the most optimistic about life.”
He further noted that his post isn’t about bragging or gaining sympathy but being clueless about the purpose of his life. “I am rich and have no idea what to do with my life,” Hiremath said.
He mentioned his struggles, despite being offered a whopping $60m pay package. To find out answers to his questions – “What is the point of money if it not for freedom?, What is your most scarce resource if not time?, Hiremath decided to go to the ‘Redwoods’.
A Journey Of Self-Discovery
Hiremath further talked about meeting with over 70 investors, founders in robotics after leaving his company and learning about robotics. “At the end of the 2 weeks, I left feeling deflated and foolish. I didn’t want to start a robotics company. The only thing that seemed interesting to me was humanoids. It started to dawn on me that what I actually wanted was to look like Elon, and that is incredibly cringe. It hurts to even type this out,” he wrote.
I am rich and have no idea what to do with my life.
Where I talk about leaving Loom, giving up $60m, larping as Elon, breaking up with my girlfriend, insecurities, a brief stint at DOGE, and how I'm now in Hawaii self-studying physics.https://t.co/cMgAsXq3St

Break Up With Girlfriend
Hiremath revealed that he traveled to many beautiful places with his ‘loving and supportive’ (ex) girlfriend. However, things took an unexpected turn and the couple got engaged into regular arguments. “It was me,” he wrote revealing that he broke up with her after 2 years.
“Then, as the company continued to skyrocket to new heights, I started to have growing expectations for myself, and others started to have growing expectations of me. When we went through our first round of layoffs, this company my ego was hitched to had suffered a massive blow, so I lost myself. This whole chapter of Loom has created a complex web of internalized insecurities I must now work hard to disentangle and free myself from,” he added.
He ended up apologizing to his girlfriend – “If my ex is reading this. Thank you for everything. I am sorry I couldn’t be what you needed me to be.”
Working For DOGE For 4 Weeks
The 33-year-old said that he even tried working for Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy for 4 weeks. “The next 4 weeks of my life consisted of 100s of calls recruiting the smartest people I’ve ever talked to, working on various projects I’m definitely not able to talk about, and learning how completely dysfunctional the government was. It was a blast,” Hiremath wrote.
He next booked a One-way ticket to Hawaii and started learning physics to ‘build up his first principles foundation so that he can start a company that manufactures real world things.’ At the end he wrote some of his unanswered questions like “What is wrong with being insignificant?”
