Additionally, both telecom giants are currently offering their 5G services on existing user plans. Airtel and Jio said they will announce tariff plans for the 5G network once the technology becomes more available in the country. As for the SIM card, both companies clarified that 4G subscribers will not need to upgrade their SIM cards in order to access the faster and more efficient 5G network.

While that may be the case, one factor that users need to take care of is the availability of 5G-enabled smartphones. This means that while subscribers do not need to change their SIM cards, they must ensure that their smartphones support 5G bands so that they can access the 5G network whenever it becomes available in their city.

In case they don’t have a 5G-enabled smartphone, they will have to buy a new device that supports 5G bands in order to access the network.

Check if your iPhone supports 5G

All iPhone models starting with the iPhone 12 support the 5G network. This means that if you have an older iPhone model, it will support 5G when the network is available in your city.

It is worth noting that Apple has not officially “opened up” 5G connectivity on its iPhones in India. This means that even if you have an iPhone that supports 5G and you live in one of the cities where 5G is available, you will have to wait for an update from Apple to use the service.
