Japanese Man Sleeps 30 Minutes: An average person needs about 6–8 hours of sleep each night to stay healthy. Not getting enough sleep can negatively impact your mood and make it hard to function. Experts say that regularly sleeping 6–8 hours can boost your mood, brain function, and overall health. But what if I told you there’s a man who has only slept 30 minutes a day for the last 12 years? Yes, it’s true.
A Japanese man named Daisuke Hori has slept just 30 minutes a day for 12 years to “double” his life, according to the South China Morning Post. The 40-year-old from Hyogo, Japan, said he trained his body and mind to function well with very little sleep. He also claimed that this habit has boosted his work efficiency.
How 26 Minutes Of Rest Energizes Day Of Japanese Man
According to the South China Morning Post, Daisuke Hori said that doing sports or drinking coffee an hour before eating can help you avoid feeling sleepy. Hori, an entrepreneur, believes that quality sleep is more important than long sleep for staying focused. He mentioned that people who need to stay focused, like doctors and firefighters, benefit more from quality sleep even if they don’t sleep for long, the media outlet reported.
Japan’s Yomiuri TV took a close look at Hori’s claims over three days on a reality show called ‘Will You Go With Me?’ The show reported that Hori once slept for only 26 minutes, then woke up feeling energetic, had breakfast, went to work, and even went to the gym. Yes, imagine that.
Daisuke started the Japan Short Sleepers Training Association in 2016, where he teaches classes about sleep and health. He has trained over 2,100 people to become ultra-short sleepers.
In another unusual case, an 80-year-old Vietnamese man named Thai Ngoc has not slept for more than 60 years. He says he lost his ability to sleep after catching a fever as a child in 1962. Despite trying various treatments and sleeping pills, Ngoc still can’t sleep.
