Teacher Used Students As ‘Lookouts’: A 26-year-old former maths teacher from Missouri, US has been found guilty of having a sexual contract with a 16-year-old child. Hailey Clifton-Carmack was initially arrested in January for having a relationship with the teen. She is currently under house arrest as she waits for her arrest on October 11 of this year.

A probable cause statement said the boy showed another student photos of scratches on his back, which he said were inflicted by Clifton-Carmack during the encounter. Under Missouri’s Sex Offender Assessment Program, Clifton-Carmack could face up to four years in prison.

Teacher Is Charged Under Many Cases

Clifton-Carmack was initially charged with child molestation, statuary rape, keeping a child’s welfare in danger, and sexual contract with a teen.

One student witness described how Clifton-Carmack openly discussed her personal life with the class, including problems she said she was having with school administrators because she was “too close with students.” Indeed, the superintendent of the Laquey School District did have a private conversation with Clifton-Carmack about her interactions with students.

Clifton Carmack’s Husband Filed For Divorce

The student also alleged that the victim told him that he was the cause of Clifton-Carmack’s divorce. According to court documents, Clifton Carmack’s husband filed for divorce in August 2023, and they were divorced the following month. On December 8, Detective Sergeant Bryan Gibbs interviewed Clifton-Carmack without signs of duress. A search of her phone produced an alarming conversation between her and the victim concerning their illegal relations.

The criminal complaint indicated that Clifton-Carmack continued contacting the victim until December 23, when she moved to Texas to live with her family.

Victim’s Father Faces Charges For Child Endangerment Amid Ongoing Abuse

One of the confidential witnesses testified that Clifton Carmack continued having sexual intercourse with the victim at his residence until December of 2019. The abuse continued, and one of the confidential witnesses reported this to the police. A confidential witness testified that the victim’s father knew about the abuses but did nothing to stop them. During questioning, the father reportedly said, “They are going to do it behind my back, so I may as well let it happen,” the magazine People reports. He also allegedly said he allowed the pair to use students as “lookouts” when they had relations at school and that he would lie on his son’s behalf if need be.

The father of the victim now faces felony charges of child endangerment, and his case has been stayed pending the October 11 sentencing of the teacher.
