In an unusual form of saying goodbye to the car, a family in the Amreli district of Gujarat loaded up their 12-year-old Wagon R car with the funeral rites costing ₹4 lakh. This unexpected show was witnessed by approximately 1,500 people.
The burial was conducted in family’s agricultural land by performing some spiritual rituals and digging a burial hole 15 feet deep and the video has since circulated on social media platforms. The viral video shows the Wagon R, decorated with marigold garlands, and the roof shrouded in rose petals, being placed into the pit while professional videographers captured the entire event.

Sanjay Polara, the owner of the car, explained his choice, saying that the Wagon R brought prosperity and respect to his family. TOI quoted Polara as saying “I bought this car nearly 12 years ago, and it brought prosperity to the family. Apart from seeing success in business, my family also gained respect. The vehicle proved lucky for my family and me. Hence, instead of selling it, I gave it a samadhi at my farm as a tribute,”. Polara also plans to plant a tree at the burial site for future generations reminding them that the family’s “lucky car” rests beneath it.

In preparation for the farewell, Polara had sent a four-page long invite to around 2000 people of his village describing the car as “like a family member” and acknowledging the fortune and social status it helped his family achieve since 2006. “We want this car in our memory forever, and that’s why we have planned a samadhi (burial) of this car,” reported TOI.
