New Delhi: Gudia Padwa is a new year for Konkani Hindus and Marathis. It will celebrate on Wednesday, March 22 2023, which is the first day of Chaitra month according to the lunisolar Hindu calendar.
Gudi is the symbol of a flag that is raised, which explains the Gudi Padwa meaning. Padwa originated from the word “paddava,” which means the foremost day of the year and refers to the waxing moon. It is celebrated in different states with various names, like Ugadi in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.

History
Every culture and festival in India has a reason for its celebration. same as Gudi Padwa, which revolves around three major reasons. The first is that Lord Brahma created the world on this day. The last one is the beginning of Vasant Ritu and spring as the sun changes its position and place above the intersecting point of the Equator. As India is an agricultural country, the foremost important reason behind Gudi Padwa is that it marks the harvesting or reaping of Rabi crops.
Importance
Gudi is made by tying a piece of fresh cloth around a 5-foot-long bamboo stick. Atop it are neem leaves and a sugar candy garland. The stick is placed in a silver or bronze pot. It is said to be a symbol of victory and is said to ward off evil and invite prosperity. People pray after placing it and consume the prasad made of neem leaves.
