Did He Sip or Skip? Trump’s Viral Moment with Saudi Drink Sparks Internet Debate

A recent video featuring former U.S. President Donald Trump has stirred a lively debate online, all over a seemingly simple gesture — whether or not he took a sip of a traditional Saudi drink.

A recent video featuring former U.S. President Donald Trump has stirred a lively debate online, all over a seemingly simple gesture — whether or not he took a sip of a traditional Saudi drink.

The moment occurred during Trump’s appearance at an event where he was greeted with a customary welcome that included a small cup of Saudi Drink, a traditional gesture of hospitality in the Gulf region. The video shows Trump being handed the cup, after which he raises it toward his lips. But whether he actually drank from it or simply pretended to, remains unclear — and that’s where the internet jumped in.

Netizen’s Reaction

Some viewers are convinced that Trump just mimicked the act, never really taking a sip. Others insist that he did drink it, noting a slight movement of his head and cup. The clip has since gone viral, prompting a flood of humorous memes, tweets, and speculations.

Commenters across social media platforms have weighed in, with some jokingly calling it a diplomatic dodge, while others argue it may have been a respectful nod without full participation. Many compared the incident to past cultural interactions by global leaders, adding another layer of interpretation.

As with many viral moments involving Trump, the video became a flashpoint for both criticism and comic relief. But underneath the humour, the incident once again highlights how even the smallest actions by prominent figures can spark widespread discussions, particularly when tied to cultural traditions and international diplomacy.

Other than that, Trump received a lavish welcome in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, wherein he announced that the U.S. will lift long-standing sanctions on Syria, a huge boost for a country that has been shattered by more than a decade of civil war.

“Oh, what I do for the crown prince,” Trump said, drawing laughs from the audience. “It’s their time to shine. We’re taking them all off,” Trump said, “Good luck Syria, show us something very special.”

Trump and the Saudi crown prince also signed an agreement covering energy, defence, mining, and other areas. Trump has sought to strengthen relations with the Saudis to improve regional ties with Israel and act as a bulwark against Iran
