China: Sometimes people unknowingly do things that could endanger their lives, but only good luck saves them. A 90-year-old woman recently in the news may have survived for 20 years thanks to such good luck.
One day, Qin, a Chinese woman, discovered an object in a field resembling a hammer with a wooden handle. She took it home and used it for different tasks like crushing chillies, hammering nails, and cracking walnuts. She continued using it for about 20 years.
Last week, the shocking reality of this ‘hammer’ was revealed when a demolition team working on the woman’s old house discovered it was actually a hand grenade. For the past 20 years, every time the woman handled it, she unknowingly risked her life.
She used it extensively, according to police, who noted that the grenade’s wooden handle had become smooth and shiny from years of use, with the top showing numerous dents. In a viral video in China on June 23, Qin casually mentioned, “I use it at home to crush red chillies, crack nuts, and hammer nails.”
After the workers demolishing the woman’s house alerted the authorities about the hand grenade, the Huangbao Police Station quickly sent a special unit. They confirmed that the suspicious object was indeed a Chinese Type 67 hand grenade, which had somehow ended up with the woman.
Some speculated that the grenade didn’t explode because it might have been a training grenade, which looks like a real one but isn’t filled with explosives. However, the police confirmed it was a real grenade and have now destroyed it. Several pictures of the grenade are now viral on Chinese social media.
