It was unusual for a Delhi Metro commuter who saw something that not only surprised him but also drew reactions from netizens after being shared on social media.
According to reports, a passenger found a large box of Nirodh condoms behind a Metro station gate. The online post shows several packets of condoms lying behind the Delhi Metro gate.
The post garnered various reactions on social media, where a few joked about it while others shared their thoughts.
A user said, “Earlier in the day, I heard these were made available at bus stands, railway stations, and many such frequently visited public places.”
Another user wrote, “Genuinely asking, do people actually use these—‘Nirodh’ specifically? I’m a med student, and I’ve only learnt about them in class. It’s a great initiative by the health department, but I’ve never heard of anyone using it. Same with Mala-D/N and Antara.”
Delhi Metro tied up with HLL
In 2014, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tied up with HLL Lifecare to install vending machines at Metro stations. The machines vend not only condoms but also napkins and oral contraceptives.
The government launched Nirodh condoms in 1960 for contraception and protection from sexually transmitted diseases. They were made available free of cost at healthcare centres.
